And we're starting to live it, thanks to the
vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.The thing about
civil rights leader and cultural icon that I found the
most inspirational while learning and reading about him was his
demeanor. The
equal rights activist was so
firm and unswerving in his opinion that all men and women of all colors should live in equality, yet he was
calm and advocated
non-violence when faced with opposition. I read once that he was actually
hit in the face with a brick during a march in
Chicago in the late 60's - he did not lash out violently, he just
kept on marching for his beliefs. It doesn't take much to respond violently to opposition or hate, it takes a
true man to rise above and use knowledge and intellect as your weapons.
Dr. King sacrificed some
small battles in an effort to
win the war.So, on this special
MLK day before our
first black President is inaugurated, take some time to reflect on
how far we've come as a country - always keeping in mind that
we still have so far to go.Download Audio from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" Speech
