We Just Don't Stop

.. I felt a certain type of way when I heard the news over at illRoots that organic hip-hop jazz pioneers The Roots are halting touring (temporarily I hope!) since they landed a gig as Jimmy Fallon's in-house band when he steps in for Conan this upcoming spring on NBC.

Now, I've seen the innovative, entertaining hip-hop band three times now but I wish Powerhouse 105.1's concert wasn't the same night back in Oct when the Roots crew rocked with Gym Class Heroes, I would've loved to go. Hopefully they'll do a few more shows around the tri-state so I can catch ?uestlove, Tariq and the fellas before their stint on Late Night.

In light of the news, I've compiled my a list of some random gems from The Roots' deep 15-year catalog that they'll return to performing if Fallon flops, Enjoy!

Here's my idea of a nice Saturday night listening session: An album from the late, great James "J Dilla" Yancey called Pay Jay was shelved by MCA Records in '03 that just leaked a couple days ago. Featuring production from greats Pete Rock, ?uestlove, Kanye West, Kareem Riggins and Dilla himself, it's always refreshing to hear new material from the influential hip-hop luminary. R.I.P.

Lollipop Remix & Jay-Z Freestyle Diss

I also just grabbed Al Green & ?uestlove's collaboration album Lay It Down, I'll be posting my favorite tracks later tonight!

Here's Jay-Z's defense of Lebron James during the Cleveland Cavalier star's ongoing feud with DeShawn Stevenson of the Washington Wizards. Stevenson began the beef by claiming James is overrated, then James responded by making this analogy: Lebron = Jay-Z while Stevenson = Soulja Boy.

While I don't completely agree with Lebron comparing himself to Jay-Z (he's more like the NBA's Lupe Fiasco or Clipse, because both have only 2 albums under their belts and Lebron has yet to grab a ring yet), the Jigga man's diss is pretty amusing.

Then we have another remix to Wayne's chart-smashing electro-R&B hit "Lollipop" where Young Jeezy implements his version of the Auto-Tune voice. Stick to the trap, Snowman - you don't have crossover appeal like Snoop or Weezy. I'm out to class, peace!
